We usually don’t have sudden wake-ups like some other members of the family.(See holmanhut.blogspot.com) Our’s usually start out with a wake-up call from some member of the family. It was about 1:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27 and the phone rang. It was Brooke and she and Daniel were at the hospital getting ready to have the baby. It didn’t surprise me as she had been having contractions all day. They called to invite us over to share the experience with them. Of course, Sherry was off to the races and I was dragging my feet just a little.(You have to know the family history to appreciate it. Ask Sherry and she will tell you sometime.)
We got to the hospital about 1:20 and were there when Addyson was born. It was wonderful and she is cute as a bug’s ear, what ever that means. We are so proud of Brooke. She is so tough, not a squeak and no epidural and Dan was so kind and caring. I and so old I don’t remember if I was a good as Daniel but I hope I was. He is a real model of how a husband should be gentle and caring. Its too bad Brooke and Dan don't teach a class on 'How to have a Baby' as they really have it down.
It was a nice morning for us and everything went well and Addyson was 5 lbs 6 oz and 18 inches. She was only partly out and she stuck up her hand with her little fingers spread. I'm not sure whether she was trying to show her bull riding style or just giving us a high-five. It was one of those occasions you would like to have had on film. We got a lot of pictures but that's one that got away. Needless to say, her bull-riding, construction-working mother wasn't in a position to see. You judge for yourself, Addyson is one cute kid. I thank God that He gave us this experience to love and take care of His little girl, Addyson. When you see it all happen you know God lives and He loves us enough that he sends us little spirits like Addyson to raise and care for. Its a real testimony builder.
